Tourism New Zealand chooses new Kaumatua

Prominent Maori artist Cliff Whiting has been appointed Kaumatua to Tourism New Zealand as it looks to ensure Maori culture is correctly portrayed.

Last year Tourism New Zealand was censured for cultural insensitivity by the Maori Development Ministry over a series of website postcards.

Tourism New Zealand sees Dr Whiting's appointment as a step to ensure Maori culture is authentically reflected in its 100 per cent Pure New Zealand campaign.
