The tide has to be just right and the water calm, but when it is, Nigel Horne will take you on a thrilling journey through a sea cave to the watery bottom of an often-explosive blowhole that rises around 24m through the rocks to the sky.
The ride in a 5m, state-of-the-art inflatable boat is part of an hour-long tour that covers about 12km at Hahei on the Coromandel Peninsula.
The tour is personalised, limited to seven people and has a reputation for being "a photographer's dream" for stunning natural attractions, including Cathedral Cove, coastal islands and reefs.
The tour departs daily year-round and costs $45 for adults and $25 for children.
