Theme park rides ramp up the action

There are new attractions popping up at theme parks around the world and entirely new parks planned for Asia.

Here are some of the best new international theme parks and rides:

Disney California Adventure Park: Cars Land

Get ready to be revved up by the huge - really huge - Cars Land opening at Disney California Adventure Park on June 15.

Cars Land is full of new attractions, including Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi's Flying Tires and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.

Another new land opening at the park next month is Buena Vista Street, a step back in time to the carefree southern California of the 1920s.

Buena Vista Street features interpretations of 1920s Los Angeles buildings complete with art deco storefronts, Spanish-tile roofs, wrought-iron balconies and sparkling fountains.

There's a Red Car Trolley to ride and a reproduction of Carthay Circle Theatre, where Walt Disney's first animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, premiered in 1937.

Universal Studios Japan: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Warner Bros and Universal have teamed up to bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Universal Studios in Osaka, western Japan.

Harry Potter World, scheduled to open in 2014, will include a reconstruction of Hogwarts, the school of "witchcraft and wizardry", as well as rides and themed food.

Universal also plans to bring a 'Wizarding World' to its Los Angeles theme park.

The theme park attraction debuted at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida in mid 2010. Since then, Warner Bros has turned the movie franchise's set outside London into a tourist destination.

Disneyland Hong Kong: Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land opened at Disneyland in Hong Kong in late 2011.

After passing the six-metre tall Woody that stands at the entrance of the land, guests experience the feeling of being shrunk to the size of a toy when they enter Andy's backyard to play with their favourite Toy Story friends.

Universal Studios Singapore: Transformers Ride

This hyper-realistic 3D thrill ride puts you right in the middle of all the action in the world of Transformers. Join Optimus Prime and the Autobots as you become a freedom fighter in a 3D battle against the forces of evil.
