Stuttgart, in southern Germany was named the world's least-stressful city, with Hannover inthird place, Munich in fifth and Hamburg in ninth place.
The rankings were calculated by analysing data related to a number of factors, including each city's level of noise, air and light pollution, average levels of unemployment and debt per capita, how densely populated each city is, the percentage of green space available and how satisfied residents were with public transport options.
Perceptions of security and the mental and physical health of each city's population were also taken into account.
The five least-stressful cities were all located in Europe, with Luxembourg in second place and Bern, Switzerland in fourth.
In fact, the only non-European city in the top ten was Sydney, Australia, which appeared in eighth place.

While their residents are more stressed out than the Sydneysiders, two Kiwi cities also made the top twenty — Wellington appeared at number 13 and Auckland at 17.
On the other end of the spectrum, the five most-stressful cities in the world were Baghdad in Iraq, Kabul in Afghanistan, Lagos in Nigeria, Dakar in Senegal and Cairo, Egypt.

However, a stressed-out city doesn't necessarily make for a bad tourist experience — many destinations popular with international travellers appeared towards the end of the list, including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (119), Athens, Greece (121) and Buenos Aires in Argentina (116).
