Terrifying video shows teen dangling from Carnival Liberty cruise ship

Shocking video has emerged showing a teen hanging off the edge of a cruise ship, during a dangerous and potentially deadly stunt.

The short video, sent to US TV station KPRC-TV, shows the teenager laughing as he climbs down the side of the Carnival Liberty while at sea off the US coast.

Other passengers can be heard laughing as he's helped back on-board, after dangling over the water for a number of seconds.

"This literally made my heart beat super fast and made me nervous. Kids just don't understand that they are not invincible," ship passenger Buffy Halbrooks Augustine said.

"He thought he was having fun and never considered the possibilities."

"It's incredibly dangerous. He would have been sucked under immediately," ship passenger Marcus K. told KPRC 2.

Carnival, who own the ship, released a short statement after the clip made headlines.

"We recently became aware of the video and are investigating. We strongly condemn any such behaviour by our guests that puts themselves or others at risk."

The teen is yet to be identified.
