Taupo goes a piping

If the sound of the bagpipes gives you goosebumps, Taupo is the place to be this weekend.

Kilts will be swirling and pipes will be skirling as 42 bands from New Zealand and Australia compete in the National Pipe Band Championships, from Friday to Sunday.

Music events are at the Tongariro North Domain on Friday at 9am and Saturday at 1pm. Entry is free.

On Saturday a street march begins at 9am, and on Sunday there will be staff-flourishing skills and drum major displays at Owen Delany Park from 11am.

The Sunday entry fee is adults $10, family $20, secondary pupils $5, children free.
