A one-hour return trip on Coromandel's unique narrow-gauge Driving Creek Railway includes viaducts, spirals, reverses and tunnels.
There's a magnificent view from the ridge-top terminus where a talk is given about local history, ecology and activities, including the working pottery and brickworks.
The train also passes through a kauri forest replanting project. Trips depart at 10.15am and 2pm daily. Fares: adults $15; children $7; family $35 (two adults and two children).
