If New Zealand's newest luxury lodge, Blanket Bay, at Glenorchy near Queenstown, is anywhere near as good as its public relations, it will be a sublime place to stay.

The lakeside lodge, owned by the fomer head of the Levi jeans business, scored selection in Conde Nast Traveler's regular best-of lists within months of welcoming its first guest. Who cares whether anyone from Conde Nast actually stayed there?

It was the only New Zealand lodge in Conde Nast's hotlist of the top 36 new hotels in the world. That sort of publicity is priceless.
