The week before going on a big trip is always stressful. Deciding what to pack, making arrangements so things run smoothly at home and work ... to-do lists can quickly mount up.
These days, the stress can be compounded by a random act of terror in the city you're about to travel to. Such was the case for me last week.
As you read this, I'll be in New York, a city I absolutely adore. But the excitement was muted when Sayfullo Saipov drove a truck along a cycle path, killing eight people - five of whom were tourists - and injuring at least 11 more.
Although we must be increasingly safety conscious on our travels, I'm vowing not to let it stop me from enjoying the city I love. As long as our joy remains, fear can't win.
