I don't expect you to feel sorry for me, but this job really does have its drawbacks.
I thought I'd be making a serious dent in my travel wishlist, ticking off those destinations I've been longing to visit for years. And although that has definitely happened — I'd never have got to Israel, Borneo, Croatia and France all in one year otherwise — the problem is that when I tick one place off, I often add on five more.
Meeting people who recommend exciting places; taking inspiration from the stories in these pages; reading your letters about places you've been ... my wishlist is now 10 times longer than when I started here. This week I've added Ethiopia and a Silversea cruise.
