Shantytown on the West Coast has introduced the Footplate Experience, in which visitors can ride in the cab of a restored steam train. The trains follow an original sawmill tram track through native bush to an area worked by miners in the 1860s gold rush. The return journey stops at Infants Creek Sawmill for a short walk to the Gold Claim where visitors can pan for gold, with a guaranteed strike. The Footplate Experience costs $5 on top of admission price. Shantytown is open every day except Christmas Day, 8.30am-5pm.
