What's so good about this place: Perfect location, right on the beach - and an amazing swimming beach at that. Lovely pools and a good range of bars, restaurants and shops nearby.
And the bad: You pay a resort fee - as you do with most US hotels and resorts - however this one doesn't seem to get you anything as you still have to pay for beach loungers and umbrellas. Infuriating!
What's in the neighbourhood: The Sheraton (so you can use their facilities too, with them also being a Starwood property), bars, restaurants, gelato shops, and the Whalers Village group of shops. Plus it's only a 10-minute Uber to Lahaina, where you can do whale watching tours or the sunset dinner cruise.
Toiletries: White-tea aloe-scented, quite nice.
Food & Drink: Relish burgers by the pool area are pretty good for an easy dinner.
The bed: Unbelievably comfortable. King-sized and we both had the best sleeps.
A room with a view: a truly stunning view of Kaanapali Beach. Any time you can see whales in the ocean and a beautiful Hawaiian sunset all from your hotel room balcony it makes for a pretty special and romantic holiday experience.
Bathroom: Big with a hidden toilet area. Shower is over a bath though, which annoyed me a bit.
Free Wi-Fi: Yes. Was great as I could upload a photo of our view to Facebook as soon as we checked in.
Noise: Just the sound of the waves against the beach. The best sound to fall asleep to in my opinion.
Room service: Big menu, and made use of it one night. Great make-your-own burgers.
Value for money: Yes and no. Yes - especially since we got that upgrade. Great resort and awesome to have use of the Sheraton pools and restaurants. But no in that the resort fee is a bit of a sham given you have to pay for beach umbrellas and loungers.
Exercise facilities: Big gym with lots of equipment, and if you forget your gym gear you can hire New Balance gear for $5 to get your sweaty/workout fix.
