Winston Aldworth checks into the Springhill Suites, Springdale, Utah.
Location: The town of Springdale is right on the edge of Zion National Park, in stunning southern Utah. Towering cliff faces of red look down upon us.
Check-in experience: Real quick — and with stunning views.
Room: I was onthe ground floor, in 132. The hotel is a new build so everything looks minty fresh, which is nice, but the designers chose to put a wardrobe on the wall that faces the glorious cliff faces, halving the amount of possible window space. Other rooms were the same throughout the hotel. Shame to miss out on the view that was delivered so well in the foyer.
Exercise facilities: There's a gym open 24/7 and no doubt it's all pretty swish. But if you're this close to Zion National Park and you're doing your exercise indoors, you need your head checked.
Our days in Zion were strenuous, so we made the most of the hotel's fabulous outdoor spa in the evenings. And the nearby bottle shop.
Food and drink: There's a free, basic breakfast set-up which has — weirdly — paper plates and plastic cutlery. For dining at night, Springhill has plenty of restaurants and I can report that King's Landing Bistro (named, I'm assured, in pre-GOT days) is excellent.
Service: It's southern Utah, everyone is friendly.
