Tracey Bond checks into the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort.
Location: Denarau, Fiji.
Check-in: There were lots of people checking in but enough welcoming staff members to speed you through the process, luggage was taken from guests on arrival and there were plenty of squishy seats and ice-cold water on tap to help cool you down.
In the neighbourhood: On the island itself there is a marina and a golf course and the bula bus (FJ$8, NZ$5.60) runs between resorts and the marina area. The Hilton resort itself features two pool areas — one is adults only — bars, restaurants, a spa, gym and children's club. There are also shops for essentials you may have forgotten, a general store and deli. Oh and let's not forget the icecream stand. Free Wi-Fi: Yes, in the rooms and around the main restaurant and pool areas.
Bed: Large and dreamy. It was like being hugged by a cloud. I woke up feeling refreshed. The room: Not so much a room, more of a villa. There was a living and dining room with comfy rattan couches and a massive TV and a fully equipped kitchenette, with crockery and gadgets: even a sandwich toaster. The bedroom had a huge bed, wardrobe and another TV. The villa was decorated in tropical island chic: lots of creams and whites and dark wood with Fijian artefacts on the walls. Sliding doors led out to a terrace with a barbecue, table and chairs and the ocean.
