Ellie Hutchinson stays at the Brisbane Riverview Hotel.
Getting there: The Riverview Hotel is conveniently located in the inner city suburb of Hamilton, overlooking the Brisbane river and only five minutes from the CBD. Across the road is Brett's Wharf, where you can hop on the City Cat to South Bank or the heart of the city for shopping, shows and exhibitions. Brisbane international and domestic airports are a 10-minute drive away. It is easy to hop on a ConXion shuttle, which drops you off and collects you directly outside the hotel.
Check-in experience: An inviting lobby with restful lighting creates a great atmosphere and welcoming and attentive staff make the check-in process very brief.
Room: River Spa Suite, room 605. There are 90 rooms in the hotel and 12 suites, one of which I was lucky enough to have, complete with expansive river views, even from the full-size spa bath. I particularly loved the stylish black-and-white tiling throughout the bathroom, the elegant decor and detailed upholstery.
What's so good about this place? The spacious and luxurious feel. The layout creates a feeling of two separate areas; the sofa, coffee table and work desk on one side and the bed and flat-screen TV on the other. There is complimentary wi-fi and parking for all guests.
And the bad? Missing out on the full buffet breakfast at Plates restaurant because my flight was so early.
What's in the neighbourhood?
The Breakfast Creek Hotel is the best steakhouse in town, according to the locals. Ask the concierge for advice on the best to do and see in Brisbane and they will give you some up-to-date ideas and let you know what's on and what not to miss during your stay.
Own-brand bathroom amenities, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, vanity kits and plenty of towels. Two cosy bathrobes and a powerful hair dryer.
Food and drink: Fully stocked mini bar, plenty of tea choices, plus a coffee machine. There is also a choice of two onsite bars, Chester's Bar and Plates Cafe Bar, and delicious food options from Plates Restaurant, which also offers in-room service.
The bed: Big and comfy, with pillow menu and soft lighting.
Bathroom: One sink with huge mirrors and plenty of space, plus a large wardrobe with full-length mirrors as you enter. Step through another door and find a separate toilet and full-size spa bath with a wide-head shower over the bath, and views out to the river.
Noise: A bit of traffic noise being on the main road, but not enough to disturb sleep. Being higher up is probably preferable.
Room service: 24-hour room service and 24-hour in-room dining, seven days a week.
Value for money: Great value for money with the location alone, the place has been recently renovated with unique modern artwork in every room, beautiful decor and of course, you have everything you need at your fingertips.
Exercise facilities: Lagoon-style pool, spa, sauna and a fully equipped gymnasium.
