And the bad? Though the room was great, we struggled to get stuff to work. We couldn't figure out the heating system so woke up freezing in the morning, the smart TV didn't initially connect to the internet, the door lock decided to stop working for a while, and the telephone didn't dial through to housekeeping, room service, or anywhere else.
What's in the neighbourhood? Not much beyond a few other airport hotels.
Toiletries: Soak Superfood Skincare range.
The bed: A super king that was very comfortable after we removed the mountain of unnecessary cushions.
A room with a view? It overlooked the hotel's heated outdoor pool and a putting lawn that looked like it might be fun on a warm summer's day.
Bathroom: The vast bathroom has an excellent deep tub that's worth taking a long soak in if you've just stepped off a stressful flight. There's also a rain shower, his and hers sinks, and a separate toilet room.
Free Wi-Fi? Quick and bountiful. No problems with it, except for connecting to the smart TV.
Noise: Quiet except for the noisy air conditioning and the occasional door slam from our neighbours.
Value for money: The large "Dotty suite" we had is $650 a night but other rooms are available from $350.
Room service: Given our suite was so swanky, we decided to get room service on the two occasions we ate in the hotel. This wasn't straightforward. We had to actually go to reception to place our order because the phone in our room didn't work properly. After I'd made my room service order I was told I could have ordered from the main Paksa restaurant menu if I wanted to. It looked far more varied and appetising, but at that stage it seemed like more fuss than it was worth. We ordered a chicken and halloumi burger, an ostrich burger with a fried egg, some vegetables, a raspberry cheesecake, and a bottle of Kumeu River pinot gris. The burgers were mediocre but the cheesecake was the highlight for me. Breakfast turned out to be something of a palaver. We asked for it to be delivered at 7am but there was still no sign of it at 7.15am so I called up reception, who said they would ask the kitchen what was going on. It turned out the member of staff who delivered our food didn't know that our room existed. When it finally arrived, it was cold.
Exercise facilities: A gym and a pool but we didn't have time to use either.
Perfect for: A "cool" couple looking for a romantic layover in Auckland.
The bottomline: Naumi launched in Auckland just seven weeks ago. Once it's ironed out a few little niggles, it'll be a great hotel.
