Getting there: We took the high-speed rail for approximately two hours from Taipei to Dapeng where we had just a short bus ride to the destination.

Check-in experience: Very easy — our rooms were all ready for us.

Room: Each room is a small but clean and modern unit, completely self-contained and surrounded by palm trees and other greenery. They also have beautiful villas you can book for a higher price.

Bathroom: A cool wooden bath and a shower with good water pressure — except for one morning when all the rooms had no running water. The toilet is in a small facing room.

Toiletries: Very comprehensive, with amenities including dental and shaving kits.

The bed: A luxe king that was very comfortable, with fresh white linen.

Price: From $92 per night.

Facilities: Chocolate shop, coffee shop, restaurant, massage services and outdoor activities.

Noise: Very quiet, other than a nearby river.

Food and drink: The owner is also a chocolate taster and chocolate maker in Taiwan, owning Fu Wan Chocolate, made on site. Following a nice seafood dinner, we had an amazing tasting of seven chocolates he had created. Cacao plays a big part in the drinks here as well — you can even order chocolate iced tea.

What's in the neighbourhood? It's not in walking distance from anything — one of its best attributes is its seclusion. There is a small township nearby, but I would suggest driving. Dapeng Bay is just two minutes away by car.

What's so good about this place? The chocolate, the self-contained rooms and the luscious nature aspect.

Perfect for? Anyone passing who wants to experience Taiwan's chocolate culture from one of the masters while staying on beautiful grounds.

Would I return? Yes.
