Ensure your place on a 10-hour flight bound for the world's most remarkable natural light show – the Aurora Australis. Better known as the Southern Lights, this natural phenomenon paints the southern night sky in shades of pink, green and red. HOLD ON TO THE HIGH-FLYING FOX
One of the world's longest flying-fox rides can be found in idyllic countryside just north of Nelson, on the road to Cable Bay. The chair-lift-like ride swishes you over a native forest canopy, and assures plenty of adrenaline for its passengers, as it reaches up to 100km/h. A family package, which allows two adults and two children to ride together, costs $295. (Passengers must be 1.2m tall or over). The adventure park also offers 90-minute, guided quad-bike tours. Drivers pay $130 each and their passenger, $50. (Passengers must be aged five years and over). The park is open daily from 9.30am to 4pm and has a licensed café.
