School students aged between 16 and 18 have a chance of winning a trip to South Africa in a competition being run by Cathay Pacific and Auckland Zoo. All people need do is write about an environmental issue and describe how the problem could be managed better or solved.
All entries must be 1000 words or less and be original works.
The two winners will fly out in July to take part in the Cathay Pacific Wilderness Experience in association with the zoo.
Essays will be judged by Auckland University professor of environmental management, Dr John Craig, Cathay Pacific's Pauline Ray, and Auckland Zoo education service manager Leigh Wither.
Authors of the winning entries will join 54 international students on a nine-day adventure to Entabeni Game Reserve in Limpopo Province.
Now in its 10th year, the competition is designed to expand students' world view, and inspire and nurture a commitment to environmental responsibility.
The closing date for entries is Friday May 16. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.aucklandzoo.co.nz or by phoning 09 307 8456.
