The Kauri Museum in the tiny Northland settlement of Matakohe might be far from any major city, but more than 90,000 people visit it annually.
The museum's special Otamatea Soldiers Exhibition is on until May 30, telling the stories of more than 300 soldiers from the area who served in the Boer War and World Wars I and II.
Admission is $22 for a family or $10 for an adult and $2.50 a child. The museum, open daily, is a 90-minute drive from Auckland on the highway to Dargaville, and there are two cafes nearby.
