Te Kuiti stakes its claim as the shearing capital of the world during the New Zealand Shearing Championships, March 29 to April 1. On the final day more than 2000 sheep will make a 2km dash down the main street in the Running of the Sheep. Other weekend attractions include music and cultural performances, craft and food stalls, plus shearing competitions featuring 400 top national and international shearers.
