Tour guide Ann Matheson lived with her family in Japan for 10 years, travelled extensively within the country and learned to speak Japanese fluently.

She has since led several tours there and takes off again on November 4 to 16 when the Japanese countryside is aflame with autumn colours. The tour costs $5995 a person.
