Sail back in time

Bloomers, bustles and bow ties have given way to bikinis and the men's equivalent in itsy-bitsy swimming gear on the decks of the traditional wooden sailing ship, R. Tucker Thompson.

With a choice of helping to set the sails and take the helm, or stretching out on the deck, tourists find the R. Tucker Thompson a perfect way to explore the Bay of Islands.

Though the tall ship is little more than 20 years old, she is built in the tradition of 100-year-old schooners, and has sailed the world.

For $89, an entire day at sea includes Devonshire tea and a barbecue lunch in a secluded bay.
