What's so good about this place? The location is on the river at the foot of Michigan Ave, aka Magnificent Mile, which is lined with shops, trees and flower beds. There are three levels to the building, each the height of surrounding buildings, which are reflected in its glass. In spite of its height it is not imposing, but blends into the Chicago skyline.
What's in the neighbourhood? Shopping, dining, river cruises, walk to Millennium Park for sculpture gazing, the John Hancock Center for more skyscraper views.
Food and drink: Two Michelin-star restaurants. Sixteen has views as jaw-dropping as the food. In summer the veranda is dotted with tables and in winter they keep reindeer out here. Real ones. Our mini bar is stocked with the usual suspects but includes limited edition vodka and bottled water in fancy glass bottles priced up to US$25. Trump chocolate (US$6) and cookies (US$8). Complimentary Nespresso coffee and water bottles at night.
The bed: A super king with pillows like clouds. A non-snore pillow on the Pillow Menu was delivered for the husband. It didn't work.
A room with a view? Kickass room with a view straight down the river, past the Wrigley Building and Chicago Tribune and out to the lake.
Bathroom: Marble bathtub so deep it's like a small jacuzzi. Separate shower, toilet behind frosted glass and two basins.
Toiletries: Trump. Trump shampoo, conditioner, body gel. Trump body butter, bath salts, sugar rub. Trump mouthwash, shower cap and bath sponge. Oh and Trump slippers - all to take home.
Noise: The odd wail of a city siren far below.
Exercise facilities/spa: I had a massage with Cesar, who could take the wind out of your lungs just massaging your back. I like that sort of pressure. There is a heated indoor pool plus gym with personal trainers on standby.
Perfect for: Special treaters, pamper boffins and high rollers.
Would I return? In a heartbeat.
