Gayle Dickson stays at The Chedi Muscat, Oman.
Getting there: It's only a short drive from the airport into Muscat and The Chedi Muscat is centrally located.
Check-in experience: As your car glides to a stop, you'll be met by beaming smiles. Luggage will be whisked away while you complete check-in procedures in the blissfully cool lobby that resembles a luxurious Bedouin tent.
Room: My Chedi Club Suite overlooked a tranquil pond in one direction, with a glimpse of the sea the other way. Spacious doesn't quite cut it - a separate lounge, massive sleeping area with oversized bed, king-sized bathroom with walk-in shower and deep soaking tub, and a private balcony with loungers.
Price: Around $400 a night entry level (low season).
What's so good about this place? Sheer luxury - from the service and food throughout the seven dining options, to the standard of accommodation, the private beach, three pools, luxurious fitness centre and spa. You'll want for nothing and lust for everything.
And the bad? I honestly didn't find anything to complain about, except perhaps that I should have checked in for much longer.
What's in the neighbourhood? Since you're centrally located, Muscat City is there for the taking - the souqs, the mosque, golf, gardens, shopping.
Food and drink: Six restaurants, two lounges, poolside and beachside dining options provide a little of everything, all done to perfection. Even a simple Caesar salad was served with aplomb.
The bed: A king-size dream with the finest linens and luxurious pillows.
A room with a view? Oh yes - mine was over a tranquil pond and the manicured gardens towards the long pool.
Bathroom: A sanctuary, complete with rain shower, terrazzo sunken tub, twin basins and luxurious amenities.
Noise: You'll hear the sea, a cricket or two and a few birds, but apart from that, it's peace at its best.
Room service: The mini bar is complimentary in the Club Suites and it is topped up regularly. The Club Lounge also provided plenty of snacks and drinks during the day. Room service was, however, swift when needed.
Value for money: Gosh yes, this is a slice of Arabian paradise - once tried, forever spoiled.
Exercise facilities: The largest and most luxurious gym I've come across - more than 400sq m of it. State-of-the-art equipment, private exercise rooms and personal trainers.
Perfect for: Luxuriating. Children were seen, but they were few and far between. This resort is designed for adult pleasure.
