Perfect for: Somebody wanting a place near the airport, corporate travellers, and anyone who is planning on hiring transport such as a car, as the hotel is some distance from Queenstown's centre.
Check-in experience: Seamless and smooth. The whole process took just a few minutes and before I knew it I was relaxing in my room.
The room: The first thing you notice entering LQ's one-bedroom apartment is the stunning view of the mountains. Practically a stone's throw away from the snow-topped Remarkables, the view is undoubtedly the best part of this hotel room. Floor-to-ceiling windows let you really take in the full effect of the mountains too, and let plenty of light pour into the room. The apartment itself is simple and comfortable, with a couple of cosy armchairs, a table and kitchenette, a wall-mounted LED television, and a separate bedroom and ensuite.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a cook top, microwave, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher.
The bathroom: The ensuite is small but does the job. There's a washing machine and dryer combo squeezed in with the toilet and shower, with sachets of detergent for travellers to stay on top of their laundry while away from home. The hotel uses Prija soaps and shampoos and provides them in bottles attached to the wall instead of small, single use travel shampoos.
Food and drink: LQ Queenstown doesn't have a restaurant or room service, though it does have its own miniature shop and cafe, Frank's Pantry. The shop stocks gourmet food items and also has a coffee machine for customers wanting something more than what the kitchenette in their rooms has to offer. Guests can pre-order breakfast packs from Frank's Pantry which can be picked up from reception after 8am.
Facilities: There's the aforementioned Frank's Pantry for peckish guests, as well as a small gym. Visitors also have access to free parking and wi-fi.
In the neighbourhood: While it's about a 15 minute drive to get into Queenstown's centre, the hotel is nice and close to the airport - only a few minutes drive or about a 25 minute walk if you have time on your hands and not too much luggage. The walk is mostly flat.
About ten minutes away by foot there's the Remarkables Park town centre with a decent collection of shops and businesses, eateries, a supermarket, a library and more.
An Uber ride into town is at least $30, but there are buses servicing the area.
