An enormous indoor garden the size of 30 football fields has just opened in a disused china-clay quarry in Cornwall.
The $285 million Eden Project is one of the country's landmark schemes to mark the new millennium. The garden is housed in two globe-like conservatories made from 800 vast steel hexagons, with no internal support. It is the biggest structure of its kind in the world.
The site will be completed with a lake, a 2300-seat amphitheatre, restaurants, a shop and extensive carparking.
