Strategically placed by the Auckland Harbour Bridge and Mission Bay, glider pilots Paddy Monro and Sebastian Katz of Aqua Air are running hang-gliding flights with water takeoff and landing - a new development in the sport.
They can pick you up from the beach at Mission Bay, the wharf at Birkenhead, or you can catch a yellow water taxi from outside the Loaded Hog in the Viaduct Basin.
Once your harness and helmet are in place, your exhilarating three- to five-minute flight above the busiest part of Auckland Harbour can take off. Your pilot releases the tow-line and does all the work, leaving you to concentrate on the views.
Prepare to get a little wet from the knees down - take a towel and a change of clothing. The cost is $125 a person, two flights, $200.
