The reward for walking to the summit of Rangitoto Island, is stunning views of Auckland.
A commentated, four-wheel-drive road tour and guided walk can be part of the visit, but bookings are essential.
Ferries leave from Downtown Auckland's ferry terminal at 9.30 am, 11.45 am and 2 pm. The cost is $49 for adults, $25 for children and $15 for children under 5.
If you choose not to take the guided tour, the cost is $20 or $50 for a family of two adults and two children. The walk is more than 900m of board-walk.
