Airline food is rarely fantastic but one passenger's discovery in his in-flight vegetable stew will probably scar him for a while.
The sight before us as we peel back the foil lid on our in-flight meal isn't always appealing.
But one passenger had a particularly shocking experience on a recent flight when he discovered a large cockroach lurking in his meal, news.com.au reports.
Rohit Raj Singh Chauhan said he found the insect in his sambhar, which is a lentil-based vegetable stew, on the Air India flight from Bhopal to Mumbai on February 2.
What's worse is when he told the cabin crew about the unwanted intruder in his meal, he didn't get much of a response.
I informed the Air India crew, but they ignored me," Mr Chauhan told The Times of India. "Since the crew members were not listening, I returned it to them.
"I even objected to their serving food to others, but to no avail."
A photo of the cockroach in the meal was shared on Twitter by another passenger, Manoj Khandekar.
Air India issued an apology for the incident, saying in a public statement: "We sincerely apologise for the incident where our valued passenger had a disappointing experience with the meal served on board our Bhopal-Mumbai flight.
"Air India always endeavours to ensure our passengers enjoy our services. We have taken serious note of the incident and immediately issued a strong notice to the caterer concerned.
"Air India has a zero-tolerance policy in this respect and have initiated corrective action internally. Our senior officials are in touch with the aggrieved passenger."
