Love campervan adventures but not so keen on freedom camping or busy holiday parks? An initiative by business woman Rai Banbury could be for you. You'll be interested too if you have a spacious driveway in a great location and are looking to make a few extra dollars.
My 5 Star Driveway was launched in December. Its catch-cry is "where campers meet locals and locals meet campers". Banbury says the idea for My 5 Star Driveway is thanks to her mum, Janine, who holidayed with her parents in caravans in the 60s, spent Christmas holidays travelling New Zealand with friends in the 70s, campervanned around Europe in the 80s and tented with a young family in the 90s.
"She thought that seeing the sights was amazing, but the friends she made along the way made those trips memorable. The highlight of any trip is learning about local sights and hidden gems from those who live there," says Banbury.
Campervan tourists can look online to book a driveway space to park at, explore new surroundings and enjoy local hospitality. This is ideal for neighbourhoods or urban areas where there are no conventional facilities for campervans or freedom camping is not permitted. Host addresses are not shown on the website and bookings and details are taken care of by email between host and camper.
