Ostrich meat cooked on the barbecue, delicately crafted ostrich eggs turned to art, and strapping ostrich chicks are all part of a visit to Piako Ostrich Farm, just outside Thames.
One-hour tours start at 11am and 2pm (except Tuesdays and Wednesdays) until the farm closes for winter on June 1. Acraft shop on site is open all year round, (except July), and offers a huge range of ostrich products. Prices for the tours are $7.50 adults, $6 seniors, $3 children aged 5-12, and under-5s are free.
