New Zealand has again been voted the safest destination in the world by readers of a British-based travel magazine, Wanderlust.
The editor-in-chief of Wanderlust, Lyn Hughes, told the Daily Mail newspaper that New Zealand offered great freedom from worrying about dangerous animals, political instability, and transport.
As well, it offered great skiing, adrenalin sports, diving, trekking, surfing and sailing.
"Safety has become increasingly important to travellers, but this does not mean New Zealand is boring," Hughes said on the Daily Mail's online travel page.
New Zealand beat off Australia and Britain in terms of safety for the second year in a row, but fell from favour in the annual poll in terms of being the favourite country overall.
It fell from first favourite overall last year to third in 2005, behind Namibia and Jordan. Nepal and Tanzania were placed fourth and fifth.
