Some hotels on Norfolk Island are turning to New Zealanders to refill cancelled bookings from Australia, following the demise of Queensland regional airline Flight West.
The Castaway Hotel is a small, 23-room hotel, which includes standard and superior rooms as well as apartments. It has a three- to 3 1/2-star rating and offers a restaurant, a bar, a recreation room and small gym, guests' laundry and barbecue. Breakfasts are not included in room rates.
Highlands Lodge is in a peaceful and stunning setting on 20ha of sub-tropical forest. Accommodation ranges from garden rooms and superior rooms to self-contained cottages. Breakfast is included in the tariff.
Packages include seven nights for the cost of five at Castaway for $A425 ($513) or the Highlands Lodge for $A580 ($701). There are four nights for the cost of three, and a Friendly Fours package - two couples travelling, staying in adjoining hotel rooms, or a two-bedroom apartment or cottage, with one couple staying free of charge.
All specials include complimentary car hire (fuel or local hire car insurance not included).
