A cantilevered walkway at Southwark on the South Bank in London has just been completed, giving the city one of the longest uninterrupted stretches of river walkway in any European city.
The 120m section was the missing link in riverside improvements that have transformed the area into a pedestrian-friendly environment with attractions such as the Tate Modern Art Gallery and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
The walkway is all part of the Millennium Mile along London's riverside. Starting at Westminster Bridge and passing right by the London Eye, the National Theatre and Design Museum, it then becomes part of the Thames Path - the longest riverside walk in Europe, stretching 281km to the river's source in the Cotswold Hills.
