My holidays: Shane Green

What was your greatest holiday?
An African safari in Kenya and Tanzania. We experienced three very different styles of resorts - tents, huts and lodges - in three very different locations.

And the worst?
We were in Bali for a friend's wedding. About three days in, my wife and I both fell ill.

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?
Either adventure activities like diving, hiking, paddling, skiing, or biking, or reading a book quietly in a hammock.

If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
I'd love to drive around the Far North to enjoy some of the great lodges there.

How about for a dream holiday internationally?
I am concerned with how quickly our environment is changing. With that in mind, I hope to be able to visit Bhutan, Alaska, and maybe even Antarctica.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?
Waste vacation days because I was too hungover to get out of bed.

What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?
Get to know the locals. The best meals, the best adventures and the best people are never found in a travel guide.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?
I've always tried to collect some small piece of local art that represents the environment and wildlife of the locale.

What's the next trip you've got planned?
I'm very excited to be heading back home for a week in October to headline Hospitality New Zealand's emerging leaders' conference and hospitality showcase.
