What was your greatest holiday? We had a family holiday in Europe in 1999, which gave our kids the chance to see where Mum grew up in Holland. We were away for six weeks and covered a lot of territory, including time in Europe and Los Angeles. The kids still talkabout our adventure and often get the photo albums out.
And the worst? A friend's wedding in Fiji. We were in a lagoon bure and had mosquito hell for seven days.
If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing? I try to sample as many local beers as I can while I'm travelling and I've had some taste surprises over the years. This year I discovered the local Peruvian beer Cusquena, which is a real tonic after spending time on Machu Picchu.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be? Whangamata, as it's one of this country's greatest beaches and it's special to me after having a bach there.
How about for a dream holiday internationally? The Maldives is my dream holiday and a picture from there has been my screensaver for years.
What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling? This may disturb some readers but guinea pig, which is a Peruvian treat. It tastes like chicken with too many bones.
What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip? New friendships because I love meeting new people.
Favourite airport at which to land? As a plane-spotter from way back, Schiphol in Amsterdam. It's a true cosmopolitan airport.
