What was your greatest holiday?
Last year when my wife Di and I went to Hawaii without the kids [Milan and Kobe]. As much as I love spending time with them ... We stayed at the Sheraton at Waikiki and just relaxed really - hung out by the pool and did a lot of sightseeing. We went to the North Shore to see the Pipeline Pro surfing competition but unfortunately the day we went it was cancelled because the conditions were too choppy. I found out where [Aussie pro] Kelly Slater was staying so I tried to peep over his fence but it was well guarded!
If we bump into you on holiday what are you most likely to be doing?
Either playing at the beach with the kids or trying to surf.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
Waihi Beach. It's quite special to Di and her family. She spent a lot of time there when she was growing up and since I met her we've always gone there. I love it. It's a chilled-out place and, in terms of surfing, the waves are just the right size for me.
How about a dream holiday internationally?
I'd love to go to the Greek islands. I've heard a lot about them - Di went there during her OE. I've never been to that part of Europe - it's not really somewhere the All Blacks go.
What's the dumbest thing you've done when travelling?
Putting zip-ties on every zip of my bags and getting to the hotel and not having anything sharp enough to open them with. I do it every time. We secure our luggage as a team when travelling to South Africa and I've made a habit of doing it everywhere I go. It's tricky because obviously you can't take a pocket knife or scissors in your carry-on.
