If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?
I'd like to say the beach, but more often than not, you'll find me in the supermarket. Have you seen the size of the yoghurt aisles in the supermarche in France? Unbelievable. I'll be the one in the corner, eating all the dairy products.
Dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?
Crashed an Italian funeral. I actually thought I was dutifully attending mass until I realised I was surrounded by 108 crying Italian men. After peering over bowed heads, I realised a) there was a casket up the front and b) I was the only woman there. I somehow ended up in the throng, crying and hugging everyone afterwards, throwing in a few "mamma mias". Somehow through plentiful handwaving and broken English, I managed to find out where all the women were: at home in the kitchen.
Window or aisle?
Window — being short may mean I can't reach the overhead locker but I can comfortably handle a long-haul flight curled up cross-legged next to the window.
Complete this sentence: I can't travel without ...
... earplugs, bottled water and an even temperament.
What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?
Pre-order a "special" meal before your flight. You get it delivered first and there's no chance of your first option running out. And stock up on water before boarding the flight. Guzzling a litre or two definitely helps with the jetlag and cankle syndrome.
What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling?
Does cheese count as a meal? I had the best fromage platter in a groovy cafe in Montmartre called the Troubadour, complete with a knockout rosé. I can die happy.
Best thing you've brought back from a trip?
A fiance! Actually, make that an incredible pounamu from Hokitika, a triple helix my husband bought me after we got engaged.
Favourite airport at which to land?
Auckland. The native birdsong on arrival always makes me happy.
