What was your greatest holiday?

On a trip a few years back to Fiji, my partner, Mia Pistorius, and I had a bure right on the beach on a little island that had only a few other guests. We just relaxed on the beach and enjoyed the sea. It was bliss.

And the worst?

When I was 18 I went with some friends on a road trip to Southern California. We had no money, no plans and really no idea why we were going other than "Why not?". We figured out pretty quickly that showing up to a city with no accommodation isn't the best way to travel.

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?

Reading on the Kindle, or eating.

If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?

I think I'd like to give the Milford Track a go, I'd love to get down among the natural beauty there.

How about for a dream holiday internationally?

I've always been interested in Machu Picchu in Peru. To go somewhere that it feels like time stood still would be pretty cool to experience.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?

I lost my wallet. That made for a pretty miserable time.

Good shoes. If you're going to be doing any kind of walking on holiday a good pair of shoes can be the difference between a good and a bad experience - it's that simple.

What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?

Don't stress out on the travel process. It's never easy getting where you want to go, so just go with the flow, because stressing out won't change anything.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?

I'm not a big souvenir guy, and my bags are normally packed to the brim, but I do grab the occasional fridge magnet. I like heading to the fridge and being reminded of a great trip.

Favourite airport at which to land?

Queenstown. Walking off the plane down there is amazing. Seeing the landscape and breathing the air just knocks you for a loop every time.
