What was your greatest holiday?

A toss-up between the European holiday on my gap year, and my trip to the States a few years ago.

And the worst?

Don't think I've had an awful one - the worst bits have been excessive sunburn and mozzie bites in Fiji, probably.

If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?

Lying by the pool, reading a book, or taking in the local culture.

What's your dream destination?

At the moment - it changes - South America.

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?

Failed to check my passport was still current. It wasn't. Realised in the shuttle on the way to the international terminal.

What will you always have in your hand luggage?

An eye mask and lip balm.

Complete this sentence: I can't travel without ...

Too much luggage. I'm not an efficient packer, alas.

What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?

Not necessarily the best, but the longest-serving is the tiny painted Venetian mask I bought in Italy in 1993. Chipped, but still beautiful.

Favourite airport at which to land?

Auckland - because it means home and though I love travelling, it's always good to come back.

What's the next trip you've got planned?

At the moment, the best I can offer is a vague plan for an island retreat just when winter's really biting. Need to work on that plan a bit more.
