Sri Lankan, Greek, Mandarin, Chinese, Fijian, Korean and Indian are some of the languages Auckland City's ambassadors can draw on as they help to guide tourists and locals to where they want to go.
The Auckland City Ambassador Programme is loosely based on a project in New York that hired unemployed city dwellers to look after patches within the city.
Auckland's ambassadors are distinctive in yellow and red uniforms, and provide a walking, talking personal map and reference service. They are also trained in first aid.
