The appearance of the star cluster Matariki, or Pleiades, on June 2 signified the start of Maori New Year celebrations for most iwi, which will continue until the rising of the new moon on June 30.
During this time Te Papa's Matariki celebrations will include musical performances, lectures and storytelling.
The portable planetarium Starlab gives an opportunity to locate different stars and learn about the significance of Matariki to Maori.
