Matakana cruising

Captains of Adventure abound on the Matakana Coast, getting about in a jet-powered America's Cup support boat.

The 25-seat boats are used to cruise to around the islands of Matakana Coast, north of Auckland. Tour company, True North New Zealand provides a 50-minute mini-bus ride from Auckland to Warkworth.

The Island Discovery Day includes going ashore at Kawau Island, optional snorkelling at the site of a 19th-century shipwreck, and a barbecue lunch. The 9 am-5 pm adventure costs $169 a person.
