Malaysian restaurant caught out washing plates in a puddle on the street

Horrified diners discovered their dishes were washed in a puddle on the street.

A popular restaurant in Malaysia is in hot water after footage of staff washing dishes in a puddle on the street went viral on social media.

Dinners were horrified to watch the staff from Raj's Banana Leaf restaurant, in Kuala Lumpur, squatting over a pothole washing dishes in dirty water.

The restaurant has issued an apology blaming the incident on new staff, but has since been shut down.

"Hygiene and cleanliness are our top priority," the restaurant said in a Facebook post.

Health authorities, however, found no adequate washing facilities in the restaurant, which has now been shut down indefinitely.

Horrified diners discovered their dishes were washed in a puddle on the street.

"We will take action to close down the restaurant until further notice," deputy director of the Environmental Health Department, Chandrakant Patel said, according to the Daily Mail Australia.

"They do not have proper washing facilities behind the kitchen," he said.

The restaurant did pass "cleanliness checks" and managed to secure an A- rating. It is not known how it passed those checks without appropriate washing facilities.
