Luxury alpine hotel extended

A $15 million refurbishment of luxury alpine hotel The Hermitage, at the foothills of the Southern Alps, is now complete.

The project began a year ago with the construction of 60 new rooms in a six-storey extension, bringing the hotel's total number of rooms to 272.

The original Hermitage Hotel was opened to adventurous travellers in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park in 1884, and has been rebuilt, modernised and refurbished over the years.

Guests can enjoy views of Mt Cook through the 3m by 2m-wide windows in each of the new rooms.
