Penshurst Place in Kent, England, was gifted to the Sidney family in 1552 by King Edward VI, and has remained the Sidney home since.
Resident and owner Philip Sidney, Lord De L'Isle, is staging an exhibition, tracing his family's ancestry and opening the house to the public.
Visitors can see the Baron's Hall with its towering chestnut roof and one of England's oldest private gardens. Portraits, tapestries, porcelain and armour are also on display.
Penshurst Place is open daily until November 3; family ancestry exhibition opens April 25.
