Former English brewery worker Mark Reid gave up his job, took up writing and succeeded in combining his two great passions of walking and pubs. The 31-year-old has written three books on walking in northern England, and is working on a fourth while organising guided walks in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Inn Way to the Yorkshire Dales describes a 120km walk, passing, or going into, 26 traditional pubs. A similar publication devoted to walks and pubs in England's Lake District was described by one magazine editor as the mother of all pub crawls - 44 pubs over 145km with bogs, apocalyptic weather and mad horses.
Reid says he aims to search out the country pubs, not the ones exclusively catering to the tourist trade.
