Puff and stuff
Teams from the community and local schools will be competing to pull a vintage steam train down the main street of Kawakawa on May 25. It's part of the Puff and Pull Carnival, which includes other competitions, a sponsored walk, stalls, a vintage car display and activities based around the theme of steam and coal.

Creative Canterbury
Platform 08 showcases the talents of students and staff from the University of Canterbury, offering exhibitions, theatre, literature, lectures, music, film and opera. The festival runs May 21-June 1 at venues in the city and on campus. The programme is online.
