Air New Zealand is to cut children's fares for its Gotta Go, Priceless and Real Deal campaigns by an average of 33 per cent from Thursday.
The new child fares on these advance-purchase domestic flights will be set at 50 per cent of the adult fare instead of the previous 67 per cent.
Andrew Miller, general manager for Air New Zealand domestic, says the airline hopes the cheaper tickets will enable more families to travel around the country.
For example, a journey from Auckland to Wellington to visit Te Papa with the grandchildren will now cost $99 return for a child, reduced from $136.
Up to two children can travel on these fares when accompanied by an adult on the same fare.
In line with international IATA conditions, all Air New Zealand children's fares will now apply to those aged between 2 and 11 years inclusive, while under-2s continue to travel free if not occupying a seat.
